In The Wee Small Hours Of The Morning

Polly Jackson, My Mom

My Mom always got up early. I remember hearing her singing all the way down in the kitchen. I never thought it was unusual, I thought it was just a normal part of life.  As the years rolled by, my Mom and I would talk to each other on the phone around 5:30 am every morning. But now that my beautiful Mother has flown to heaven I find my early mornings are filled with silence, pray and reflection.

No Alarm Clock Needed

I still get up very early and I find it is something that people simply don’t understand.  At first, my husband use to say, “What are you doing out there?” and “Why do you get up so early?”  He now understands the joy and the bitter-sweetness of the wee small hours of the morning, and he just chalks it up to something his wife does.   I also understand that, not a lot of people want to talk on the phone at 5:30 am…in fact no one does…but if you do, please give me your phone number!

What do you do when you wake up?

You might want to slow down and make it meaningful.

Miss you Mom.

  1. Hi Sabrina, thanks for sharing your morning ritual you had with your mom! You can feel that you really do miss her. What a gift she gave you in getting going on the day the way you do. It sounds powerful. Your 7 List of things do to start their day right is awesome~ Really liking “live your dreams manual!” Thanks again. Best Regards, Wendy [UBC]

  2. I don’t get up as early as I used to, but I’m still a morning person! 7am is sleeping in! One thing that I do before my feet hit the floor is to think of 3 things that I am grateful for. I have found that I start my day in such a positive way and it continues through the day.

  3. I’m not really an early riser, but if I dedicate some ‘quiet time’ and get up early I find that my day is more productive – especially if that time is devoted to planning the day ahead. Not sure if I’d be very good on the phone though!

Thanks for the encouragement for me to get into the swing of early rising again

  5. I’ve always been an early riser. I used to be a swimmer and trained every morning at 6am. I loved being the first person in the pool and to glide through still water, before you had everybody splashing and kicking in front and behind you. Now i might get up and walk the dogs… still nice though to be up before everybody else..
